Fail image

People will go to great lengths to avoid failure, because it feels bad. But to feel the thrill of success you have to stumble and fall a few times and that's a cheat code that every successful person knows.

Simon Cowell made awful Christmas songs in the 80s. David Beckham missed sitting goals. But they got back up and tried again, and they learned from their failures.

Start Small

Try and achieve something that challenges you, but that doesn't matter too much if it doesn't work out.

If you succeed, you'll be happy that you took on a challenge and won. If you fail, you can practice getting over a small dose of failure, and then try again.

Just Do It image

For every reason not to, there are three reasons to just go do it anyway.

“Much of the stress that people feel doesn’t come from having too much to do. It comes from not finishing what they started.”
David Allen

Speech Debelle's greatest achievement wasn't winning the Mercury Music Prize. It was finishing her first album.

Watch Speech's story, here.

Getting to the finish line is hard, and you need grit. People who are able to be gritty are more likely to be happy and successful, than those who get distracted and leave things half done.

How gritty are you? Take the test, and score some extra SuperMe points.

Take Risks image

A risk that makes a different and surprising outcome more likely? Hell yeah. We'd give that a go.

If Subo hadn't stood in a queue for 11 hours, and risked her reputation, and the ridicule of the X Factor panel of judges, she'd still be living in a semi in Scotland with a faded dream.

This type of risk is all about having a flexible mindset. Saying yes to something new, when it feels more comfortable to say no. Putting yourself out there, when it's easier to stay in the shadows. Standing out from the crowd and up for what you believe in. Discovering that doing something different can be better.

Big risks can bring big opportunities.

Snog, Marry, Avoid? image

The tiniest of choices carries with it the stress of getting it wrong. Our brains are wired in a way that allows us to try and project our decisions on to the future. And that can be super stressful.

Psychologist Dan Gilbert taught students how to take photos and develop them in a dark room. The students could develop their two favourite photos, but then were told they could only keep one.

One group could change their minds and swap their choice over within the next four days. Group two had to make a final decision straight away. No returns.

After one week, the students who had to make an immediate choice were all happier with the picture they ended up with. And the people who made a quick decision about which photo to keep were, again, happier.

Try and make decisions quickly. Try not to deliberate. And no matter what choice you make, don't regret it and it will be the best choice.

What If...? image

What would happen if you’d said yes, no, kissed that guy, gone out that night?

If we knew all the answers would we ever take the first step?

No one knows what will happen tomorrow so get on with it, take that leap, leap into the unknown.

Boring image

We all have to do boring things – cleaning, washing up, visting your annoying cousins - they're part of everyday life and we all like to moan about them.

But what about the day when you physically cannot do those things anymore? Some people would love to do the things you find dull but can't.

Suddenly these boring tasks might just become that little bit more enjoyable.
